Who Are Parents As First Teachers?
Parents as First Teachers (PAFT) is a not-for-profit organisation offering training, support and development for Early Years practitioners.
Parents as First Teachers offers a successful research and evidence-based parenting programme. We train professionals to work on a 1:1 basis with parents and their children pre-birth to five, using the Parents as Teachers Foundation Curriculum.
support in the home learning environment
We train professionals to: work one-to-one with families to build attachment and positive parenting behaviours; strengthen parent-child interaction and support school readiness.
training for practitioners
Communities replicate the evidence-based Parents as First Teachers model within an organisational context that has the staffing, capacity and community relationships necessary for successful implementation and achievements of outcomes.
SUPPORT AFTER TRAINING FOR PRACTITIONERS
We encourage existing PAFT programmes to hold local network days enabling practitioners to share best practice and offer peer support. Wherever possible two members of the PAFT UK office will attend offering guidance.
THE EVIDENCE BASE
Based on current research into neuroscience and child development, the programme has four key elements:- Regular personal visits, reviews of developmental milestones, resource networking and group connectivity.
